Physician's Tomb ~ Egypt 2330 B.C.
The above painting is in the Tomb of Akmahor dating 2330 B.C. It shows the use of hand applied pressure to the hands and feet. The inscription denotes the person being treated saying, 'Please don't hurt me.' the therapist says, 'I shall act so that you will praise me.'
Although its origin was in Reflexology, the late Dr. Charles Ersdal, MD (MA) a Norwegian, advanced this therapy and found it to be a signal system rather than a reflex system.
Zone Therapy is a holistic therapy based on anatomy, physiology, immunbiology, and pathology. This therapy normalizes the body functions by stimulating the body’s own healing processes and balances the specific zones of the body.
Zone Therapy integrates all body/brain systems and releases the body’s own healing processes. It strengthens the immune system naturally, increases blood and lymph circulation, improves digestion, assimilation and elimination.
Zone Therapy balances hormones, improves function of the autonomic nervous system, gives one more energy and instills a sense of well being.
The treatment takes 30-45 minutes and covers the entire body by working through the feet.
When a Zone Therapist triggers a point on the foot, a signal is sent to that organ or system, through a reflex arc, and up the spinal cord to the brain. Then through the autonomic nervous system, signals are sent to correct those zones of the body.
Our feet are like the keyboard that communicates with the computer (brain), sending signals to every cell in the body. Zone Therapy treats the whole person ~ the Entirety.
The fingers and knuckles are used to trigger points on the feet, and a very precise pattern is followed that covers the entire body.
Dr. Ersdal's technique is much more intense than reflexology. The pain is temporary, only for the instant the point is triggered on the foot.
Other natural remedies and therapies can be used to assist the healing process, but Zone Therapy keeps the body moving forward in an integrated manner.
